This mixed methods study investigates the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on outcomes and perceptions related to the high-stakes unified state exam (USE) mathematics assessment in Russia. Quantitative descriptive analyses of USE scores from 2018-2021 revealed statistically significant distributional differences over time, with progressive increases in higher performance tiers. However, while a positive trend was discernible, strength of association tests indicated it was marginally moderate across years. Stratified pass rate analyses illuminated between-group variances, with specialized schools strongly rebounding after initial 2020 declines observed universally. To gain stakeholder insights, surveys were administered to students and teachers from urban versus rural regions. Attitudes regarding the mandatory USE removal diverged between groups; optimism permeated small rural schools despite hardships, while skepticism was pronounced among urban teachers citing accountability concerns. Stress perceptions revealed dissonances signaling wellbeing impacts. Overall, while achievement markers show positive trajectories, attitudinal variations based on school-types underline social dimensions shaping high-stakes test experiences. Results implicate targeted support policies and context-sensitive analytical approaches for optimal crisis mitigation. Granular investigations of less-understood equity gaps, expanding methodologies and detailed demographic profiling would enrich these findings. By quantifying exam trends alongside experiential nuances, the study develops a contextualized understanding of mathematical assessment transformations, informing localized continuity planning for uncertain futures.

The research describes the possibilities of critical thinking, its influence on the motivation for the formation of social and professional competencies. The relevance of the research is that today the formed critical thinking affects the success of graduates, their demand among employers and is a key indicator of assessing the quality of university activities. The novelty of the research consists in the development of technology for the forming of critical thinking among students of flight specialties, proof of its effectiveness in the practice of the educational process is provided. The methods of forming critical thinking among students during the implementation of the basic discipline «Physical Culture and Sports» are considered, which provide, in addition to optimizing the psychophysiological states of students, the development of social qualities - initiative, independence, competence, the ability to think critically, which affect the motivation to achieve results not only in physical training and sports activities, but also in professional aviation training. The practical significance of the research lies in the intensification of professional and applied training of students of aviation universities, which will help any student to navigate in the future profession and will eventually give the opportunity to manage the safety of aircraft flights.

The article deals with the issues of development of critical thinking of students by means of web technologies. It presents the analysis of different scientific approaches to the organization of critical thinking training of students. The authors state that among the means of the above mentioned critical thinking development scientists distinguish information and communication technologies, particularly web technologies, as having a significant didactic and critical thinking potential. The experience of using web resources to verify information and data in the process of students' critical thinking development is explained. The article gives examples of the using remote special course on the basis of web resources implementation into real learning process. The application of web resources provides an opportunity to intensify critical thinking motivation of students, involves them in solving the discussed problems, and develops critical thinking skills, the ability to independently create and develop new knowledge based on the information received. Comparison of the results of ascertaining and forming sections allows to ascertain the effectiveness of the proposed pedagogical condition for the development of students' critical thinking by means of web technologies and the effectiveness of the developed remote special course for developing students' critical thinking by means of modern web technologies.
