Rupture processes of the 2013–2014 Minab earthquake sequence, Iran

Abstract: We constrain epicentroid locations, magnitudes and depths of moderate-magnitude earthquakes in the 2013-2014 Minab sequence using surface-wave cross-correlations, surfacewave spectra and teleseismic body-wave modelling. We estimate precise relative locations of 54 M w ≥ 3.8 earthquakes using 48 409 teleseismic, intermediate-period Rayleigh and Lovewave cross-correlation measurements. To reduce significant regional biases in our relative locations, we shift the relative locations to align the M w 6.2 main-shock… Show more

“…The results of this study indicate a high incidence of the disease, especially in 2014. From 2011 to 2014, a series of earthquakes occurred in the Ilam province, with the maximum number of earthquakes occurring between 2013 to 2014 (9). This paved the way for the transfer of rodents to cities and villages and created an environment conducive to the vector propagation.…”

“…The location changes are about two times smaller than similar investigations of earthquakes along oceanic transform faults (Cleveland and Ammon, 2013;Cleveland et al, 2015). We computed formal least-squares uncertainties estimates (Kintner et al, 2018) assuming uncorrelated and a uniform data variance of two seconds (double our final RMS misfit, to be conservative). Most estimated uncertainties are less than three kilometers and the less well-constrained epicentroids are roughly twice that in both latitude and longitude directions.…”

“…This reverse and right-lateral, NNW trending fault system, offsets the topographical deformation in the Zagros and the Makran prisms 11 . Many studies have been made on this transition zone, such as stress distribution (see 10,12 and 13 ), source parameters and/or slip distribution (e.g. 14 ), joint gravity and surface wave tomography 15 , and ambient seismic noise tomography (e.g.…”
