Runoff Generation and Soil Erosion at Different Age of Acacia Plantation in Hoa Binh Province, Vietnam

Abstract: To determine the characteristics of runoff generation and soil erosion at the different ages of Acacia plantation in Luong Son headwater of Vietnam, four plots (15m 2 plot -1 ) were set up. Of those, two plots were at up-hill and down-hill in 1-year-old and two plots in 5-years-old Acacia plantation. Soil erosion and runoff were monitored during rainy season from April to September 2018. The main findings include: (1) Runoff coefficient at Acacia 1-year-old down and up ranged from 0.36% -0.46% with the average… Show more

“…In Vietnam, Cao Phong Orange is a distinct type of fruits with valuable genetic sources as shown in figure 1, suitable for specific ecological conditions such as low mountainous terrain at around 300 meters above sea level, surrounded by limestone mountain ranges, with fertile and well-drained soil, abundant nutrients, along with a mild climate, with temperatures typically 3-4 degrees Celsius lower than other places. Thus, it is widely cultivated in Hoa Binh province and is very famous [6][7][8][9].…”

“…Within one plot-systemic tree harvest rotation cycle, different successive vegetation states may exert differing influences on soil chemistry and biota. Relevantly, the non-tree plantation states (especially bare soil) are most vulnerable to soil erosion, especially in steep terrain [145][146][147][148][149][150][151]. Such risks are highest during the wet season (in TTHP from late September to December [152]) when strong monsoon rainfalls and occasional typhoons are frequent.…”
