Abstract:Assertion checking traditionally focused on state-based properties. In a multi-threaded environment, approaches based on sharedstate require complex locking mechanisms to ensure that specifications are checked atomically (in the same state). In addition to this increased complexity, locks also negatively affect performance. In this paper, we extend both the underlying theory and the practical implementation of SAGA, a run-time checker for single-threaded Java programs, to multi-threading, while avoiding locks.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
