The traditional house in South Tapanuli is an architecture with a distinctive shape with a type of house on stilts. One such building is bagas godang. This building functions as a residence or residence of the king, also functions as a place for holding traditional ceremonies, and as a place of protection for members of the community. The women's room in the godang bagas is a place for women's activities. Currently the space has changed its function. This study aims to re-describe women's space as a private space inside the godang bagas. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative by way of observation, interviews and documentation. The results obtained are that several rooms inside the godang bagas are women's rooms. These spaces include a bedroom, kitchen and circulation room. This space is used by women in their daily activities. The women's room is very special in the house, a space that makes women feel at home and comfortable.

The design and construction of riverbanks in Karangwaru is a community participation-based development program where stakeholders play a role in the preparation of development and its implementation. The involvement of women as one of the stakeholders is one of the positive efforts for gender equality programs. However, women's voices in percieving the results of such development have never been clearly explored. How women respond to the development process and how power relations are created in a built environment are yet to be revealed. This study aims to see how power relations are formed in the design and development of Karangwaru Riverside. Using the Foucauldian discourse analysis method, this study managed to find 7 (seven) constructs and discourses that surround them. The results show that women have only control over two discourses, namely ethical and social discourse. Desain dan pembangunan bantaran sungai di Karangwaru merupakan program pembangunan berbasis partisipasi masyarakat di mana pemangku kepentingan berperan dalam persiapan pembangunan dan pelaksanaannya. Keterlibatan perempuan sebagai salah satu pemangku kepentingan merupkan salah satu upaya positif bagi program penyetaraan gender dalam pembangunan. Meskipun demikian suara perempuan dalam melihat hasil pembangunan tersebut belum pernah dieksplorasi dengan jelas. Bagaimana perempuan menyikapi proses pembangunan dan bagaimana relasi kuasa yang tercipta dalam lingkungan terbangun masih belum terungkap. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana relasi kuasa yang terbentuk dalam desain dan pembangunan Karangwaru Riverside. Dengan menggunakan metode analisis diskursus Foucauldian, penelitian ini berhasil menemukan 7 (tujuh) konstruk dan diskursus yang melingkupinya. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa perempuan hanya memiliki kontrol pada dua diskurus yaitu diskursus etika dan sosial.

In the vernacular architecture development, the female body size has been used as a basis for determining the room size in the building. The existing forms appreciation manifested in domain forms, space functions, materials, and ornaments. The female gender elements, both in terms of body anatomy and special room, are applied as a form of reflection the traditional identity house. One of the traditional houses that applies gender roles as an architectural philosophy is the Karampuang Traditional House which is located in Sinjai Regency, South Sulawesi. This study discusses the role of women as the basis for the philosophy and architectural symbolism of the Karampuang Traditional House. The analytical method used is descriptive analysis interpretation based on the architectural components found in the Karampuang house data. The results showed that complexity of female gender which cannot be separated from the nature of women and the history of Karampuang where the first person to build and prosper Karampuang is a woman. The use and placement of symbols on parts and ornaments of the house represents the female body anatomy. The female gender is more dominant in the traditional Karampuang house. Aspects based on gender in the Karampuang traditional house are influenced by the history believed by the community, and female gender elements both in terms of body anatomy, as well as a special room for women are applied in their traditional houses. In the context of preserving traditional houses and regional culture, especially in Karampuang, serious attention is needed both by the people themselves and by the government in an effort to protect, maintain, and maintain the uniqueness of Karampuang architecture.
