Route Prediction Based Vehicular Mobility Management Scheme for VANET

Abstract: Since improvement of wireless communication, IP based mobility management protocols have been studied to provide seamless communication and mobility management. The vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is one of mobility management protocols, especially providing seamless connection with inter/intra/inner vehicle communication. However, each vehicle moves fast that causes short-lived connections with Access Router (AR). Based on vehicles' characteristic, it is hard to provide the availability of IP services in VAN… Show more

“…Wanalertlak et al (2011) presents a behavior-based mobility prediction scheme in IEEE 802.11 networks, which captures short-term and periodic behavior of mobile users to provide next-cell predictions, and eliminates the incurred scanning overhead to reduce the handoff latency. Lee et al (2014) pursues the vehicles mobility characteristics, and classifies the mobility into intrahighway mobility managed locally and global mobility managed with MIPv6, and further proposes a mobility management scheme based on route prediction.…”

“…Dae Won Lee [25] says that the characteristics of vehicles' mobility are analyzed with the navigation information; then it the mobility is classified into intra highway mobility and global mobility management. Furthermore, mobility management scheme based on route prediction in VANET are implemented for Handoffs with intra highway mobility.…”

“…ITS applications include cooperative traffic monitoring, traffic control, blind crossing, collision prevention, nearby information services, and real-time detour route computation [4], which have attracted attention from many car manufacturers, research institutes, and national transportation departments. Vehicle communications [5, 6] are the basic foundation of the above applications of VANETs.…”
