“…This was even more apparent in P. semilunaris , for which significant seasonal and intraspecific (i.e., male–female and juvenile–adult) differences were found in the present study, although the main preferred food item was by far represented by zooplankton (Rotifera), hence similar to other studies (Charlebois et al, ; Ghedotti, Smihula, & Smith, ; French & Jude, ; Adámek et al, , ; Kocovsky et al, ; Vašek et al, ; Všeticková et al, ). Indeed, Rotifera represented the majority of available prey in all seasons from the lakes investigated in the present study (e.g., Apaydın Yağcı & Ustaoğlu, ; Çelik & Giritlioğlu, ; Ergönül, Erdoğan, Altındağ, & Atasağun, ), and zooplankton was the most important prey group in the fish diet from İznik, Sapanca, Manyas, and Uluabat lakes (Okgerman et al, ; Stergiou et al, ). Stable isotope analysis of both species from the same lakes supports the present gut content analysis results (Tarkan et al, ), even though the dominant food groups were represented differently, for example, more abundant macrobenthos for both species in Lake İznik and Lake Sapanca, which are known for their rich macrobenthic fauna (Koşal Şahin & Yıldırım, ; Özbek et al, ).…”
