Rotation Flap Reconstruction for Nasal Tip Defect after Mohs Surgery

Abstract: Background: Skin cancer of the nasal tip is frequent, and reconstruction after Mohs surgery might be challenging. The rotation flap is a very commonly used flap for reconstructions on the vertex and the extremities but rarely on the nose. In textbooks rotation flaps in nose reconstruction are rarely mentioned. Objective: We present a rotation flap from the caudal tip and the columella of the nose for defects of the lateral tip of the nose. Methods: With graphics and photographs of case studies we explain the m… Show more

“…We published for round defects on the lateral tip the possibility of a rotation flap from the under tip of the nose, this would be also possible for longitudinal defects but the orientation of the defect has to be craniocaudal in contrary to the defects showed in this paper 5 …”

“…In some cases where the defect is not too big and only slightly lateralized, the donor site can be the same anatomical subunit as I published in 2006 for a rotation flap of the tip of the nose [9]. …”

“…A circular defect is one of the most commonly encountered defect types after facial tumor excision, especially after popularization of the Mohs surgical excision [ 2 ]. To close a circular skin defect, many flaps have been defined in the literature [ 3 5 ]. With these methods, the circular defects often are changed into rhomboid or square shapes by making additional excisions from healthy skin.…”
