Rotating black holes in higher order gravity

Abstract: We develop a new technique for finding black hole solutions in modified gravity that have "stealth" hair, i.e., hair whose only gravitational effect is to tune the cosmological constant. We consider scalar-tensor theories in which gravitational waves propagate at the speed of light, and show that Einstein metrics can be painted with stealth hair provided there exists a family of geodesics always normal to spacelike surfaces. We also present a novel scalar-dressed rotating black hole that has finite scalar fiel… Show more

“…One can now use this solution generating method and explore the solution space of DHOST theories beyond the stealth sector in an efficient way. An interesting application would be to generate new rotating exact solutions beyond the stealth sector starting from the stealth Kerr solution presented in [45].…”

“…were also found for nonshift-symmetric Horndeski theory [17]. Stealth black holes in DHOST theories have been attracting much attention recently [18][19][20][21][22]. Stealth solutions may also be used as seed solutions in a certain generating-solution method based on disformal transformations [23].…”

“…In the present work we consider a stealth rotating black hole solution obtained very recently [23] in the context of Degenerate Higher Order Scalar Tensor (DHOST) theories [24][25][26], 1 See [19] for Einstein-Maxwell theory, [20] for recent results in f (R) theory and [21,22] for slowly rotating black holes without hair in Horndeski theories which represent the most general class of covariant scalartensor theories with a single scalar degree of freedom (see [27] for a review). This black hole solution is characterised by an exact Kerr (or, more generally, Kerr-de Sitter) geometry and a non-trivial scalar field which can be identified with families of geodesics of the spacetime itself 2 .…”
