Rosin modified aminated mesoporous silica adsorbed tea tree oil sustained-release system for improve synergistic antibacterial and long-term antibacterial effects

Abstract: Tea tree oil, a natural antibacterial compound, cannot be used effectively because of its volatile nature. In this work, a biocompatible carrier was prepared and loaded with tea tree essential oil. The carrier was prepared via the electrostatic or chemical action of aminated mesoporous silica and sodium rosin for achieving a low volatilization rate of tea tree essential oil. A synergistic antibacterial effect was observed between sodium rosin and tea tree essential oil. This method utilized the positive charge… Show more

“…As shown in Table 1 , the BET surface, pore volume and pore diameter of SNP were 815.7278 m 2 /g, 1.804470 cm 3 /g and 8.7026 nm, respectively. Compared with other studies on NP-encapsulated essential oil, SNP has a larger pore volume, which can provide more capacity for the loading of essential oil [ 37 , 39 , 40 ]. As shown in Figure 2 a, the N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms of SNP belonged to a typical Langmuir IV isotherm, confirming the existence of a nanoporous structure [ 41 ].…”

“…After treatment with CEO-SNP, the oxidative stress was triggered and the ROS were excessively produced, which induced lipid peroxidation in the cytoplasmic membrane. Thereby, the cell membrane was damaged, leading to changes of the membrane permeability and leakage of cytoplasmic constituents, which ultimately leads to bacterial death [ 39 , 59 , 60 ].…”

“… The cells of bacterial inactivated by the interaction between irradiated rosin and wall of cell protein employing a disturbance in portability and leakage of cellular components outside the cell and lysis of internal cellular components, such cytoplasm, DNA, and mitochondria is assignable to ROS reactions as shown in Fig. 10 53 .
Figure 10 A suggested schematic diagram of ( A ) irradiation of rosin, ( B ) interaction of rosin with different kinds of bacterial and ( C ) cells of bacterial inactivated by disruption of the cell wall and lysis of intracellular constituents DNA, cytoplasm, and mitochondria.

“…Dehydroabietic acid, one of the abietic-type resin acids contained in rosin, is a monocarboxylic acid with a tricyclic phenanthrene skeleton [10][11][12], as shown in Figure 1. As can be seen, the molecular backbone of dehydroabietic acid is composed of a benzene ring rather than a double bond that is prone to oxidation.…”
