Rosa platyacantha Schrenk from Kazakhstan—Natural Source of Bioactive Compounds with Cosmetic Significance

Abstract: Plants belonging to the Rosa genus are known for their high content of bioactive molecules and broad spectrum of healing and cosmetic activities. Rosa platyacantha Schrenk is a wild-type species abundant in the mountainous regions of Kazakhstan. The phytochemical composition as well as the bioactivity of R. platyacantha extracts have not been fully investigated to date. In this study, various parts of R. platyacantha plant, collected in Almaty region, Kazakhstan, were used to prepare five hydroalcoholic extrac… Show more

“…The inhibition of the monophenolase and diphenolase activities of mushroom tyrosinase was performed as previously described [19,20]. For the monophenolase inhibitory assay, 100 mM phosphate buffer (PBS, pH = 6.8, 80 µL) was mixed with 20 µL of Piper methanolic extracts (10 µg/mL), piperine (10 µg/mL) or kojic acid (10 µg/mL).…”

“…The inhibition of murine tyrosinase activity was assessed using B16F10 cell lysate, as previously described [19,20]. The B16F10 cells (8 × 10 6 ) were lysed for 1 h with 1% Triton X-100 in PBS (5 mL) in an ultrasound ice-cold water bath.…”

“…Plant volatile compounds (VOCs) biosynthesis occurs in almost all plant organs, including the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds. They are widely used in perfumes, cosmetics and medicines, and seem promising for use in therapeutic gardens because some possess anxiolytic properties [1,2]. VOCs are lipophilic liquids with low molecular weights and high vapor pressures at ambient temperatures.…”

“…Sabitov et al [ 9 ] analyzed the phytochemicals in hydroalcoholic extracts of different organs of Rosa platyacantha wild-grown in the mountain area in Kazakhstan. The extract from closed flowers (flower buds) possessed the highest antioxidant activity (DPPH and ABTS tests) and the highest tyrosinase inhibitory potential.…”
