Rorschach Space Responses and Anger

Abstract: In this study, three different subtypes of Space responses to the Rorschach test were hypothesized: S-fusion, S-reversal, and S-integration. The relationship between these subtypes and feelings of anger and aggression was investigated. The Rorschach test, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-2 (STAXI-2), and the Aggression Questionnaire (AQ) were administered to 50 university students. Scores on the STAXI-2 were positively associated with S-fusion and negatively associated with S-integration. No significant assoc… Show more

“…In line with Rosso et al (2015a), S-int, S-rev, and S-fus were expected to be uncorrelated with each other. According to the C.S., it was expected that cut-off S> 2 (or S>3 if the count includes at least one of the responses frequently given to the first or the second card, according to Exner and Erdberg, 2005) was effective in discriminating participants rated as more inclined to experience anger and hostility, and, according to the literature, it was hypothesized that S-rev and not S-int responses were correlated with anger.…”

“…W mojej ocenie, wiele nieporozumień wynika z odmiennych orientacji badawczych. Istnieje silny nurt usiłujący opracowywać wypowiedzi uzyskane podczas badania plamami atramentowymi w ten sposób, by upodobnić test Rorschacha do metod psychometrycznych i udowodnić wartość tego testu pod tym właśnie kątem [2,3]. Inni traktują omawiany tu test jako metodę idiograficzną, umożliwiającą poznanie, jak badana osoba doświadcza świata i samą siebie w tym świecie.…”

“…To my mind, many misunderstandings result from diverse directions of research activities. There is a strong movement aspiring to treat the results in a way similar to the psychometric methods and thus prove the value of the Rorschach test in this respect [2,3]. Other researchers treat the test as an idiographic method permitting to see, how the subjects experience the world and themselves within it.…”
