Root Resection: An Alternative Treatment Option to Extraction

Abstract: An 80 year old male patient was referred to restorative postgraduate waiting list for replacement of missing maxillary posterior teeth affecting masticatory function. On further examination right maxillary second molar was diagnosed with vertical root fracture. The mesiobuccal root was resected and subsequently following healing a milled metal crown was cemented. The missing teeth were replaced with a removable partial overdenture.
