Roll to roll in situ preparation of recyclable, washable, antibacterial Ag loaded nonwoven fabric

Abstract: Functional fabrics with antibacterial performance are more welcome nowadays. However, the fabrication of functional fabrics with durable, steady performance via a cost-effective way remains a challenge. Polypropylene (denoted as PP) nonwoven fabric was modified by polyvinyl alcohol (denoted as PVA), followed by the in-situ deposition of silver nanoparticles (denoted as Ag NPs) to afford PVA-modified and Ag NPs-loaded PP (denoted as Ag/PVA/PP) fabric. The encapsulation of PP fiber by PVA coating contributes to … Show more

“…Subsequently, the fabric undergoes repeated immersions in a silver ammonia solution to facilitate the in‐situ deposition of Ag NPs. The concentration of the modifier, the molar ratio, the concentration of the solution, and the reaction temperature are critical factors that influence the deposition of Ag NPs 170 …”

“…Current methods for the antibacterial modification of PP NWFs are costly and require multiple steps, rendering them impractical for industrial use. [24][25][26][27][28] Hence, there is a need for an efficient and cost-effective method for the antibacterial modification of PP NWFs.…”

“…The roll-to-roll manufacturing system is a continuous manufacturing process, in which high-speed manufacturing enables mass production [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. Traditionally, roll-to-roll manufacturing is applied to manufacture products made from plastic film, paper, and fabric [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ]. In recent years, the system has become a promising candidate for mass producing flexible batteries, flexible copper-clad layers, and bioelectric sensors on a thin substrate [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ].…”
