Abstract:Living systems have developed control mechanisms for achieving homeostasis. Here, we propose a plausible biological feedback architecture that exploits ultrasensitivity and shows adaptive responses without requiring error detection mechanism (i.e., by measuring an external reference signal and deviation from this). While standard engineering control systems are usually based on error measurements, this is not the case for biological systems. We find that a two-state negative feedback control system, without ex… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
