Role of Terpenoids Active Ingredients Targeting for Neuroprotective Agents

Neelmani Kashyap,
Roshan Kumar,
Vinod Rana
et al.

Abstract: Neuroinflammation is a characteristic sign of a wide variety of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, amongst others. Microglia, which are native immune cells found in the brain, become activated very quickly in response to a brain infection or injury. When microglia become overactivated, their production of pro-inflammatory and cytotoxic chemicals can become unregulated and uncontrolled, which is the primary cause of neuroinflammation. Microglia are principally responsible … Show more

“…Structurally, 2-BTHF has been identified as a heterocyclic tetrahydrofuran (THF) compound, specifically a cyclic ether . A high concentration of THF has also been reported in terpenoid research, demonstrating enhanced bioactivity, including anti-Aβ aggregation, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. , Crown ethers, which are cyclic polyethers, have also been reported to inhibit amyloidosis and the formation of amyloid fibrils . Therefore, it is possible that the cyclic ether 2-BTHF at 100 μM could interfere with fibrils in α-synuclein, acting as an effective dose for attenuating α-synuclein accumulation in transgenic C.…”

“…This, in turn, forces more NADH or FADH2 into the mitochondrial electron transport chain. As a result of the obstruction in electron transfer, molecular oxygen is able to generate superoxide with the assistance of coenzyme Q, which ultimately results in an excessive amount of reactive oxygen species (ROS) [20]. The dissociation of the relationship between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and hyperglycemia can be accomplished by uncoupling mitochondrial electron transport, which can be accomplished by overexpressing uncoupling protein (UCP) to collapse voltage gradient [21].…”

“…Here, we looked into whether or not different MHR preparations could prevent heart damage that had been caused in the lab. We utilised the nonselectiveadrenergic agonist isoproterenol (ISO; 1-(3′,4′dihydroxyphenyl)-2-isopropylaminoethanol hydrochloride), which produces infarct-like necrosis of the heart muscle in rats [15][16][17], followed by leaking of cardiac enzymes into the circulation. The cardioprotective effects of MHR were investigated in rats exposed to isoproterenol.…”
