Hybrid or blended learning incorporates a mix of traditional, face‐to‐face, and online contexts in a single course. By definition, a hybrid course has a range of 30–79% of online implementation and is typically adopted for economic, practical and/or pedagogic reasons. Specifically, within the field of computer‐assisted language learning, researchers have characterized the value that hybrid language learning can contribute to the process of second‐language development. Many studies have compared hybrid language‐learning environments to traditional ones, while others have set out to characterize the affordances associated with hybrid language learning. As Web 2.0 technologies become more ubiquitous in language‐learning environments, models for hybrid language‐learning implementation will be of utmost importance.
