Role of stellate cells in hepatic echinococcosis in cattle

Abstract: Hydatid cysts formed by the metacestodes of Echinococcus granulosus. Cattle suffering from hydatid cyst shows fluid-filled structures, especially in liver. These parasite-induced cysts localized by forming fibrous capsules in the liver. Fibrogenesis is the host immune response in the liver against these parasites. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are localized perisinusoidal space also known as vitamin A-storing cells, characterize the important fibrogenic cell type. In this study, livers from 15 animals with hyd… Show more

“…The unstandardized and biased methodology of the LCT quantifications also spans research in other animal models, and significant differences in the mean amount of LCT can also be found in studies of healthy mice (mean amount of LCT 0% to 7%) [67][68][69][70], hamsters (mean amount of LCT 0.13% to 5%) [71,72], rabbits (mean amount of LCT 0.03% to 6.23%) [73,74] and cows (mean amount of LCT 0% to 6.17%) [75,76]. On the other hand, to date, we have found only six studies of laboratory animals that fulfill the criteria of unbiased sampling and, hence, provided us with an objective measure of the amount of LCT in healthy individuals [77][78][79][80][81][82] (Table 4).…”

“…Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by larval stages (metacestodes) of the tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus [ 1 , 2 ]. The adult cestode resides in the small intestine of carnivore-definitive hosts, including dogs and other canids, and produces eggs containing the infective oncosphere [ 3 ].…”

“…Accordingly, in many years it can attain a larger size. The inner germinal layer reproduces asexually forming inside buds of protoscoleces (PSC) and brood capsules (asexual-reproduction) while depositing to the outside the laminated layer for its protection (Bortoletti et al, 1973;Galindo et al, 2002;Atmaca et al, 2019). Probably in the intermediate host cystic echinococcosis exists in two variable forms: fertile CE cyst, in which PSC is attached to the germinative layer and liberated into the CE cyst fluid.…”
