Role of Spin Mixing at Interface

Abstract

The system of two ferromagnetic layers separated by normal metal film is studied. In particular, the role of interface is considered in the context of its bilayer structure which is treated as a region consisting of two mixed different magnetic moments determined by different spins. The local magnetization and the local potential exhibit the enhancement or decrement with respect to the average magnetization and the potential barrier inside ferromagnetic layers. The effect depends on the mutual concentration of two components distributed in interface layers. The results show the variation of the magnetoresistance value due to the spin mixing at the interface region. PACS : 75.70.PaUnderstanding the magnetic properties of multilayers (ML) structures is a central issue in modern study of magnetic materials. The recent intense research both theoretical and experimental has shown their particular importance in nanoscience and nanotechnological applications. We still notice a large number of papers devoted to investigations of various static properties (collinear and non-collinear spin structures [1], role of magnetic anisotropies, exchange couplings, magnetic susceptibilities [2]) as well as dynamic problems like e.g. spin wave behaviour in layered magnetic materials [3] with particular attention paid to the state and role of interface region contribution. One of the reasons of certain contradictions obtained even by similar methods when applied to investigate the magnetic properties of Fe/Cr ML is the sensitivity of these structures to the interface morphology and its dependence on the details of preparation conditions [4]. Theoretical studies including interface roughness and inter-diffusion processes showed a number of complex energetic structures with metastable self-consistent solutions characterized by very similar energies [5]. Fe/Cr/Fe trilayers were among the first to indicate the interplay between interfacial disorder and antiferromagnetic order in Cr leading to the effect of frustration, which modifies the interlayer coupling in an unexpected way [6]. * ) Presented at 12
