Role of phIGFBP-1 and ultrasound cervical length in predicting pre-term labour

Abstract: This prospective observational study was to evaluate the efficacy of combining phosphorylated insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (phIGFBP-1) and transvaginal ultrasound cervical length (CL) compared with either indicator alone in predicting pre-term labour (PTL). Women with singleton pregnancy between 24 and 36 weeks' gestation with evidence of PTL were subjected to phIGFBP-1 and CL tests. Of the 51 women, five were tested positive (phIGFBP-1 positive and CL <2.5 cm) for combination of phIGFBP-1 and … Show more

Two studies included exclusively twin gestations, both in asymptomatic women.…”

“…In addition, detection of vaginal infections such as BV, trichomoniasis, candida, or Chlamydia trachomatis during the current pregnancy, cervical length as measured at the first recorded ultrasound, and treatment with drugs for preterm labor were evaluated during the medical chart review. All variables were included in the analysis to assess for confounding because prior studies have indicated that these factors have been related to the occurrence of preterm birth …”

“…Overall, 14 studies (n = 2278 women) 15,17,20,21,30,40-48 reporting on PAMG-1, 40 (n = 7431 women) 14,15,18,20,22,28,29,[40][41][42] on fFN and 22 (n = 3192 women) 16,18,19,28,30,48,54,73,[79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90][91][92] on phIGFBP-1 were included in the final analysis. Of these, 11 studies included performance metrics for more than one biomarker.…”
