The effects of bright light treatment on subjective and objective sleepiness during three consecutive night shifts among hospital nurses-a counterbalanced placebo-controlled crossover study by Bjorvatn B, Pallesen S, Waage S, Thun E, Blytt KM Bright light treatment for 30 minutes per night during three consecutive night shifts did not convincingly reduce sleepiness among hospital nurses. Nor did this protocol impede the readaptation back to a day-oriented rhythm. Too few consecutive night shifts, inappropriate timing of light, and possible use of other countermeasures may explain the limited effects of bright light in the present study.
