This article used 677 questionnaires obtained by stratified sampling as a sample and used the hierarchical regression analysis method and the bootstrap method to analyze the data. Based on Self‐Determination Theory, this article integrated the Leader‐Member Exchange (LMX) situation to explore the mechanism of supervisor developmental feedback on employees' work meaningfulness. The results showed that supervisor developmental feedback aroused employees' work meaningfulness by meeting the autonomy need and relatedness need. Although competence need satisfaction could not enhance employees' work meaningfulness, its development could satisfy the relatedness need and autonomy need and thus boost work meaningfulness. High‐quality LMX enhanced the impact of supervisor developmental feedback on relatedness need satisfaction. This article explored the antecedents of employees' work meaningfulness from the perspectives of supervisor behavior and supervisor‐subordinate interaction. Our study completely presents the internal mechanism of employees' work meaningfulness from the psychological level, expands on existing research and provides practical guiding value for organizations to activate employees' work meaningfulness.

Digital transformation has had an unprecedented influence on all sectors of business over the last decade. We are now entering an era characterized by the extensive digital transformation of businesses, society, and consumers. Therefore, digital transformation has become a pivotal focus for organizations across various sectors in recent years. Despite differing scholarly perspectives on the concept and elements of digital transformation, a consensus exists that it significantly impacts consumer decisions and necessitates organizational adaptation. Recent challenges such as the COVID‐19 pandemic have further accelerated the need for digital transformation and its effects on consumers. This necessitates an editorial perspective on this most important topic to establish future research agenda encompassing the various dimensions of digital transformation. The purpose of this editorial perspective is to review research on digital transformation from a multidisciplinary viewpoint and provide insights into several key domains—Internet‐of‐Things, social media, mobile apps, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, the metaverse, and corporate digital responsibility—that are poised to fuel the pace of digital transformation. Each domain is analyzed through a lens of introduction, role, importance, multifaceted impact, and conclusions. Future research directions are suggested.

PurposeThe emergence of dark kitchens in the restaurant industry is a contemporary phenomenon, arising most recently in the context of the so-called gig economy. This new business model flourished during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on a global scale. Despite dark kitchens' popularity, considerable negative publicity exists in the news related to poor working conditions. To highlight this new phenomenon, this paper explores the existing literature on worker exploitation in dark kitchens in the context of the gig economy.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review of hospitality and tourism databases generated 1,430 articles, of which 18 met the authors' inclusion criteria for the final analysis, and 1,030 anecdotal sources, of which 47 were included. Thematic analysis was used to identify the key themes and summarise the findings to be used for further studies.FindingsThe popularity of dark kitchens as a business model is premised on the fact that dark kitchens' dramatically reduces the operational cost and increases productivity. On the other hand, the working conditions and contractual agreements of the gig workers in dark kitchens raise several questions from operational, legal and ethical perspective. These poor working conditions create the conditions for worker exploitation and further damage the sector's image.Practical implicationsThis study advocates that companies and managers are responsible for implementing and monitoring fair working conditions in dark kitchens. The existence of poor working conditions increases employee turnover and, overall, affects the industry's reputation.Originality/valueThis explorative study provides insights into the working conditions and contractual agreements in dark kitchens. Currently, there is no other study (empirical or conceptual) to shed light on the working practices. The authors hope this study will trigger further discussion and empirical research in this field.
