Role of Mg2+ and In3+ substitution on magnetic, magnetostrictive and dielectric properties of NiFe2O4 ceramics derived from nanopowders

Abstract: The effect of Mg2+ and In3+ substitution on the structural, magnetic, magnetostrictive and dielectric properties of NiFe2O4 samples derived through sintering of nanocrystalline ceramic powders is investigated.

“…We followed the previously established synthetic procedure to obtain the NFO, NMFO, and NIFO nanomaterials. 24 Briefly, a homogeneous solution of respective metal nitrates (Fe(NO 3 ) 3 • 9H 2 O, Ni(NO 3 ) 2 •6H 2 O, and Mg(NO 3 ) 2 •6H 2 O) with high purity was mixed with 75 mL of tartaric acid (1.5 moles per metal ion). The metal nitrates were weighed according to stoichiometry.…”

“…The peaks situated at the diffraction angles of 18.55, 30.36, 35.77, 37.40, 43.44, 53.89, 57.42, and 63.07°are assigned to the (111), ( 220), (311), ( 222), (400), (422), (511), and (440) crystal planes of the cubic spinel structure, respectively. 24 The lattice parameters of the samples extracted from the XRD data were found to be 8.339, 8.347, and 8.374 Å for NiFe 2 O 4 , NiFe 1.8 Mg 0.2 O 4 , and NiFe 1.8 In 0.2 O 4 , respectively. A similar increase in the lattice parameter has been observed and reported for In-and Mg-substituted spinel ferrite systems.…”
