Role of Imaging Technics in the Classification of Acute Pancreatitis

Abstract: This paper is a review of some aspects of acute pancreatitis (AP) (definition criteria, outcome, and prognostic factors) and a reminder of the invaluable contribution of computed tomography (CT) in confirming the diagnosis of AP, distinguishing between edematous and necrotizing forms, and in providing prognostic information via detection of possible extrapancreatic spreads (EPS). The Geneva experience (510 cases of AP over a 9-year period) has shown that no fatalities occurred when no EPS were found on CT perf… Show more

“…17,18 Additionally, the Ranson score for acute pancreatitis was evaluated on the basis of age, white blood cells, blood glucose, lactate dehydrogenase, base defi cit, urea nitrogen, estimated fl uid sequestration, serum calcium, aspartate aminotransferase, and a hematocrit fall. An overview of the US and CT results and the Ranson score is given in Table 1.…”

“…The finding of gallstones and dilatation of the extrahepatic biliary tree on cross-sectional abdominal imaging lends further support to the diagnosis of gallstone pancreatitis. 30 Ranson's Score and the Severity of the Disease Ranson's score was made and about 32 cases had score of 1, and 13 cases 2, and 10 cases more than 3. The mortality was in score 2 and >3 score with 20%.…”
