Role of Fluid Milk in Attenuating Postprandial Hyperglycemia and Hypertriglyceridemia

Abstract: Postprandial plasma glucose and triglyceride concentrations are predictive of relative cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, and the pathogenesis of both insulin resistance and atherosclerosis has been attributed to acute states of hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia. Postprandial lipemia and hyperglycemia suppress vascular reactivity and induce endothelial dysfunction. Epidemiological studies suggest that chronically-high consumption of milk and milk products is associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabet… Show more

“…The association was significant in healthy individuals as well as in hypertriglyceridemic patients. Potential mechanisms linking dairy product consumption to lower TG levels include bioactive compounds or proteins found in dairy products [21]. Although the exact component responsible for decreasing TG level is difficult to ascertain, dairy proteins are generally insulinotrophic and bind to insulin receptors on vascular and endothelial smooth muscle cells [21,22].…”

Although the exact component responsible for decreasing TG level is difficult to ascertain, dairy proteins are generally insulinotrophic and bind to insulin receptors on vascular and endothelial smooth muscle cells [21,22]. After binding, vasodilation occurs, thereby increasing blood flow and facilitates the clearance and storage of TG and glucose [21,23].…”

“…The amount of food consumed and its composition, the consumption duration, the carbohydrate content, the rate of glucose absorption and insulin resistance are important factors that affect the degree of postprandial glycemia. The concentration of glucose in plasma, 2 h after consuming a meal, is a key factor in predicting the risk of cardiovascular disease [4]. Postprandial lipemia, on the other hand, is affected by changes in plasma lipids composition and concentration.…”

“…Согласно обзору, молочные продукты оказывают благоприятное действие или по крайне мере нейтральны при СД-2 и метаболическом синдроме [17]. Согласно другому обзору, молочные продукты снижают риск СД-2 и сердечнососудистых заболеваний [18]. По разным данным, уровень глюкозы натощак не менялся или снижался после приема молочных продуктов; отмечались также другие благоприятные метаболические эффекты молока [18].…”
