Role of exosomal competing endogenous RNA in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: Recent research has tried to use exosomal RNAs (coding and noncoding) as potential diagnostic markers for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Initially, by using bioinformatics, we selected an HCC-exosomal RNA-based biomarker panel. The choice of this panel depends on the integration of Ras-related in brain (RAB11A) gene expression and its competing endogenous network. This network includes long noncoding RNA RP11-513I15.6 (lncRNA-RP11-513I15.6) and microRNA-1262 (miR-1262). Secondly, we tried to validate the expr… Show more

“…Abd El Gwad et al found that lncRNA RP11-513I15.6 and miR-1262 are included in the RAB11A competing endogenous network [104]. These exosomal RNA-based biomarkers showed good sensitivity and specificity in distinguishing HCC from HCV and healthy controls.…”

“…Moreover, some recent studies revealed that panels consisting of ncRNAs and their related ceRNETs can also be used as diagnostic biomarkers for HCC. Asmaa et al [156] constructed an lncRNA-associated ceRNET (lncRNA-RP11-513I15.6-miR1262-RAB11A mRNA) according to an in silico analysis, followed by validation in serum specimens and additional clinical and experimental assays. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed that RAB11A mRNA, lncRNA-RP11-513I15.6 and miR-1262 in the ceRNET were effective biomarkers to differentiate HCC subjects from healthy controls (area under curve: 0.963, 0.847 and 0.822, respectively).…”

“…Several ncRNAs that act as ceRNAs have been identified in the circulation and other body fluids in HCC and other cancers [ 108 , 156 158 ]. These results suggested the potential that ncRNAs that act as ceRNAs and their associated ceRNETs may be useful for clinical applications as diagnostic biomarkers of HCC (Table 5 ).…”

“…With the advances in next-generation sequencing, an increasing number of circRNAs have recently been unveiled. [4][5][6] Recently, it has been reported that abundant conserved miRNA response elements (MREs) exist in circRNAs, 7 making circRNAs a hot topic in ceRNA family research. 3 Competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) compete with other RNAs for the seed region of shared miRNAs, thus modulating the activity of the miRNAs.…”
