Role of Energy in Economic Growth of Pakistan (1972-2015)

Abstract: This paper highlights the importance of energy in the determination of growth for economy of Pakistan. This study has been taken for the period of 1972-2015. Along with energy consumption some other important variables are also put into investigation. The Johansson co-integration estimation technique has been used to estimate the required impact. The results show that energy consumption contributed positively and significantly to long run economic growth. While the said impact is statistically insignificant in… Show more

“…The coefficient of GDP is statistically significant. The sign of the variable is in conformity with Ali et al (2019), Alberinia (2011) Population (pop) directly affects electricity consumption. The implication of the result shows that 1 % increase in population will bring 0.691 % increase in electricity consumption.…”

“…econometric modeling of energy demand the following studies provide base i.e.Filippini and Pachauri (2004),Geem (2011),Kankal et al (2011),Khan and Qayyum (2008), Shurva (2011) andAli et al (2019). They expressed energy especially electricity demand as double and single log linear function of explanatory variables.LnTEC= b 0 + b 1 LnGDP + b 2 LnPOP + b 3 LnSPE + b 4 LnTEMP + b 5 LnQIM + U t Where, TEC represent Total Electricity Energy Consumptions (Ghw), GDP stands for Gross Domestic Product (Rs.bn), POP shows Population (in billions), SPE indicate Average Sale of Electricity (Paisa), TEMP represent Temperature in Degree Celsius, and QIM shows Quantum of Manufacturing Index…”

“…Today's fundamental demand fulfillment depends on the energy sector's contribution both directly and indirectly. Proper use and management of the energy sector may thus be a solution for feeding and protecting the people of the globe [60,61]. A low-carbon energy transition helps mitigate climate change, reduce air pollution, and slow the depletion of fossil fuels.…”
