Role of Cross-Sectional Imaging in Pediatric Interventional Cardiac Catheterization

Abstract: Management of congenital heart disease (CHD) has recently increased utilization of cross-sectional imaging to plan percutaneous interventions. Cardiac computed tomography (CT) and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging have become indispensable tools for pre-procedural planning prior to intervention in the pediatric cardiac catheterization lab. In this article, we review several common indications for referral and the impact of cross-sectional imaging on procedural planning, success, and patient surveillance. Show more

“…Another rapidly growing field is the fusion of imaging modalities, e.g., echocardiography with cardiac MRI. Especially planning and execution of pediatric cardiac interventions significantly benefit from this kind of comprehensive imaging guidance [ 23 , 24 ]. Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the integral parts for image fusion (automatic calibration, online co-registration plus reduction of measurement times [ 25 ]) and will be also discussed in more detail later on.…”

“…In the subsequent paper, Dr. Arar and his colleagues at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Children’s Medical Center, Dallas, TX, USA, review the role of cross-sectional imaging in pediatric interventional cardiac catheterization [ 8 ]. This paper has similar attributes to the previous paper [ 7 ] but encompasses all pediatric catheter interventional procedures.…”
