Abstract:Color flow Doppler ultrasound is a critical tool in the assessment of the scrotum. Ultrasound is the first-line imaging modality and can rapidly differentiate between surgical and nonsurgical conditions, allowing for appropriate and prompt patient management. We review the role of color flow Doppler in the evaluation of acute scrotal pain, highlighting some of the most commonly seen pathologies such as epididymo-orchitis and testicular torsion.
“…It is important to recognise that REDF may also be present in partial testicular torsion; due to compromise of the vasculature resulting from torted vessels. 5,12,17 Gaps exist in the literature regarding whether REDF occurs as a result of compressive conditions without the presence of TCS. REDF in any context should be treated with urgency as it indicates impending infarction and there is limited time to save the vascular supply.…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
