Role of cloud computing for smart grid of India and its cyber security

Abstract: A secure, reliable and economic power supply is closely linked to a fast, efficient and dependable communications infrastructure. The appliance of the cloud computing model meets the requirements of data and computing intensive smart grid applications. Using internal network improves the calculation, storage capacity, data security of the overall system, reducing the system expansion investment, thus providing ideas and strong technical support in smart grid and large scale computing can be achieved over exist… Show more

“…However hosting and maintaining a private cloud is more expensive than public cloud. Ugale et al [47] focused on the security of the data stored on cloud by proposing a distributed verification protocol. Maheshwari et al [28] proposed that by using public key infrastructure one can mitigate issues relating to fault tolerance and can detect any intrusion in the system.…”

“…In another study, Ugale et.al proposed an internet connectivity device model instead of having C.P.U. and discs, for cloud computing model for smart grid applications [10]. Tsai and Hong et al presented a review of classification and clustering algorithms for smart grid to provide a blueprint for enhancing the intelligence of smart grid [16].…”

“…The limitation of this work is that it simulates the cloud for smart grid of India, managed by PowerGrid Corporation of India, which has point of presence in 68 cities. Since it is not fully evolved, so thin client based model [10] is implemented and only data from 68 substations upto the range of 585 GB is fetched.…”

“…The Following studies refer to some attempts to strengthen the cloud security. In [8], authors focused on distributed verification protocol to guarantee the data storage security in cloud computing for India's Smart Grid, [28] focused on the potential security risks in power cloud construction and related security protection technologies for power cloud, [18] proposed an architecture for data storage in the open source cloud platform for smart grid applications and test performance in Openstack cloud, [7] proposed searchable encryption scheme to secure sensitive clouding data of electric power systems, and [29] proposed trustworthy clouds, clouds with enhanced resistancy, privacy and tolerance against internal and external issues for smart grids usage. Besides security, performance of cloud computing and its readiness for smart grid use.…”
