Role of Cardiac Myocytes Heart Fatty Acid Binding Protein Depletion (H-FABP) in Early Myocardial Infarction in Human Heart (Autopsy Study)

Abstract: BACKGROUND:Many immunohistochemical markers have been used in the postmortem detection of early myocardial infarction.AIM:In the present study we examined the role of Heart-type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP), in the detection of early myocardial infarction.MATERIAL AND METHODS:We obtained samples from 40 human autopsy hearts with/without histopathological signs of ischemia.RESULTS:All cases of definite and probable myocardial infarction showed a well-defined area of H-FABP depletion. All of the control c… Show more

“…As such, both hs-TnT and h-FABP are sensitive indicators of myocardial injury. Previous studies have reported that the concentration of h-FABP in peripheral blood in patients with MI is related to coronary artery disease severity and can be used to assess the area of MI and cardiovascular prognosis in patients with acute ST-segment elevation MI (STEMI) [ 17 ]. The results of our study show that the increase in hs-TnT and h-FABP after PCI in the ticagrelor group was significantly smaller than in the clopidogrel group.…”

“…h-FABP is a low-molecular-weight protein (14.5 kDa) comprised of 132-amino acid residues found in cardiomyocytes [15]. Like CK-MB and cTnI, h-FABP is released rapidly into the bloodstream when these cells are damaged by acute ischemia [16, 17]. However, in our study, we found no significant changes in the levels of h-FABP, in contrast to increased CK-MB and cTnI after PCI.…”

“…H-FABP can be used to determine myocardial infarct size in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and to evaluate their cardiovascular prognoses. Studies have shown that the increased levels of hs-TnT and h-FABP after PCI are significantly lower with ticagrelor administration than with clopidogrel administration, thus proving the myocardial protective effect of ticagrelor [ 50 ]. Compared to clopidogrel, pretreatment with a loading dose of ticagrelor can significantly reduce the incidence of perioperative MI associated with PCI.…”
