Role of annealing temperature on the sol–gel synthesis of VO2 nanowires with in situ characterization of their metal–insulator transition

Abstract: The single-VO2 nanowire device synthesized via sequential morphological evolutions with oxygen reduction during annealing features a sharp metal-insulator transition.

“…Due to the exciting applications mentioned above, considerable effort has been devoted to producing VO 2 (M) in the form of a thin film, primarily with a dry vapor process using chemical vapor deposition, sputtering, metalorganic molecular beam epitaxy deposition, pulsed laser deposition, e‐beam evaporation, and by electric field inducing ions migration . On the other hand, several bulk nanomaterials in solution processes with different shapes and sizes using sol–gel and hydrothermal synthesis are reported. The VO 2 thin‐film deposition techniques using dry vapor processes require an ultrahigh level of vacuum conditions (10 −6 Torr) and sometimes very high processing temperatures (400–600 °C).…”

“…In the present research, VO 2 sol was coated on soda‐lime glass substrate via a low‐cost sol‐gel spin coating method followed by gelation during thin film drying process. Sol‐gel process has been widely used in the fabrication of thermochromic thin films, however, thermochromic coating on soda‐lime glass by sol‐gel spin coating process was less investigated. Since tungsten is the most common dopant for reducing transition temperature of VO 2 , the main purpose of this research is to profoundly study the changes in VO 2 electrical and optical properties by W‐doping which was done by adding a less investigated dopant precursor (tungstic acid) to the VO 2 precursor solution.…”
