Role of Anions in the Formation of Multidimensional Coordination Polymers: Selective Separation of Anionic Toxic Dyes by 3D-Cationic Framework and Luminescent Properties

Abstract: The role of anions in the formation of diversified coordination polymers (CPs) of a flexible bidentate ligand (L), containing an aliphatic-aromatic spacer (p-xylyl) between amidopyridine moieties, has been explored. The reaction of L with Cd(II) or Cu(II) salts of NO 3 − , ClO 4 − , SO 4 2− , and SiF 6 2− resulted in the single crystals of eight CPs. The X-ray diffraction analyses of the single crystals reveal that the CPs contain 1D-zigzag (SiF 6 2− ), open (4,4)-network (NO 3 − and SCN − ), and the interpene… Show more

“…These results clearly suggest that methylated (1.1) n has the potential tor emove toxic substances from aqueous solutions. [28,29] To summarize, the otherwise photo-inactive diene 1 was shownt ou ndergo [2+ +2]-photopolymerization in its coordination polymers (CPs). The CPs of 1.Cd and 1.Cu contained 1D-intertwined triple helices( TH) that were centrosymmetric in nature.S uch THs were able to convert into triply interpenetrated 3D-networks (CPOPs) of CdSO 4 topology in single-crystal-tosingle-crystal (SCSC)m anner upon photopolymerization.…”

“…Further, the presence of coordination unsaturation in CPs was also shown to be of utility for oxygen evolution reactions upon doping of Co II . In furtherance of our efforts in synthesizing CPs with amide functionalities and exploring their properties, herein, we wish to present our studies on the Cd II CPs of tripodal ligand L in combination with substituted isopthalates and exploration of their functional properties. Further, we would like to explore how the substitution of coordination innocent functional groups, such as azido, nitro and bromo on isophthalates influences the geometry of the networks and therefore their functional properties.…”

“…However, it is still a challenge to predict the exact structures and compositions of the final products. In the construction of coordination polymers, many factors can influence the formation of the final architectures, such as the nature of the metal centres, organic ligands, counter-anions, and so on (Maity & Biradha, 2016;Roy et al, 2016;Duan et al, 2015). For example, through the self-assembly of 5-nitrobenzene-1,3-dicarboxylate and 4,4 0 -azobispyridine with Zn(NO 3 ) 2 , Cd-(NO 3 ) 2 , MnCl 2 and Co(NO 3 ) 2 , five coordination polymers with completely different architectures of diverse dimensionality and topology and different functionality can be obtained .…”

The complexation reactions of N-(pyridin-3-yl)-2-[4-(pyridin-3-ylcarbamoylmethyl)phenyl]acetamide with metal ions such as Cu II and Cd II in the presence of nitrate, sulfate, perchlorate, thiocyanate and hexafluorosilicate anions resulted in the formation of eight coordination polymers containing versatile network geometries, such as one-dimensional chains and two-dimensional layers, containing (4,4) and (6,3) topologies, and pseudo-diamondoid (Maity & Biradha, 2016). Three anion-controlled Ag I coordination polymers have been obtained through the self-assembly of the flexible S-pivot-joint bis(4-cyanobenzyl) sulfide with AgClO 4 , AgCF 3 CO 2 and AgPF 6 (Lee et al, 2015).…”
