Role of animated Human Machine Interface in nuclear power plant

Abstract: The recent advances in Computer Science and Technology have revolutionized the way graphical user interfaces are used towards Human Machine Interface (HMI). The graphical user interface is so powerful, that the knowledge of a process or system can be transferred to plant personnel accurately and effectively within a short period of time. The techniques of animation can enhance the illusion of direct manipulation that many human computer interfaces strive to represent. This paper describes the role of human mac… Show more

“…Training simulators help owners of industries, especially power utilities, to train their operating staff effectively (IAEA-TECDOC-1411, 2004; Kazuya et al , 2009). Full-scope training simulators with replicated control rooms and mathematical models mimicking the entire plant are being used extensively to train control room operators (Bindu et al , 2011; Jayanti et al , 2007; IAEA-TECDOC-1411, 2004). Power plants operate in various operating conditions with respect to power demands and various equipment operating limitations.…”

“…Power plants operate in various operating conditions with respect to power demands and various equipment operating limitations. Thus, training simulators help utility owners and their control room operators to operate power plants economically with the maximum efficiency and in a safe manner (Bindu et al , 2011; IAEA-TECDOC-1411, 2004). When a power plant operates at optimum efficiency, its equipment’s operational life and availability also improve significantly.…”
