Role of an Arabidopsis Rab GTPase RabG3b in Pathogen Response and Leaf Senescence

Abstract: In our previous proteomic analysis, we isolated a small GTPase RabG3b as a salicylic acid-responsive protein in Arabidopsis (Oh et al. in Plant Cell 17:2832-2847. Here, we constructed transgenic plants overexpressing wild-type (RabG3bOX), constitutively active (RabG3bCA), and dominant negative (RabG3bDN) forms of RabG3b for functional studies. The phenotypes of these transgenic plants were indistinguishable from wild-type plants under normal growth conditions. However, both RabG3bOX and RabG3bCA plants display… Show more

“…as well as Arabidopsis (Kwon et al, 2011). We also reported that RabG3b is involved in cell death associated with the fungal pathogen A. brassicicola and infection with the fungal toxin fumonisin B1 (FB1) as well as leaf senescence (Kwon et al, 2009). Here, we extend our work to determine the role of RabG3b and autophagy in immunity-associated HR PCD.…”

“…Plant tissues often exhibit varying degrees of resistance depending on their stage of development. The relationship between maturity and disease resistance (age-related resistance, ARR) is well documented in different plantpathogen systems (Kus et al 2002;Yun and Choi 2003;Rusterucci et al 2005;Zeier 2005;Kwon et al 2009). The onset of some ARR forms is associated with flowering, whereas others are correlated with plant age, leaf size, or the synthesis of secondary metabolites or defense proteins .…”

“…Rab7 is regarded as a key regulator in endo-lysosomal trafficking, which mediates the regulated internalization and degradation of nutrient transporters and triggers nutrient starvation that facilitates cell death [61] . In Arabidopsis, overexpression of the Rab7 homolog RabG3b leads to expanded HR upon pathogen infection and accelerated leaf senescence [62] . A wheat Rab7 homolog TaRab7 was identified and observed to be upregulated in response to salt and drought stress, and infection by the stripe rust fungus, indicating that TaRab7 has a role in plant response to various biotic and abiotic stimuli [63] .…”
