Some fungal ABC transporters have been associated with plant pathogenicity (Fleissner et al, 2002;Stergiopoulos et al, 2003;Urban et al, 1999), including a gene in the closely related species F. culmorum (Skov et al, 2004); ABC transporters also have been shown to confer resistance to plant phytoalexins (Schoonbeek et al, 2001).
