“…For example, SB-699551-A had no effect in the forced swim test, but induced sedation in rats (87), and, whereas increased cAMP has been linked to positive effects on memory consolidation (88), an impairment of this trait was reported by other investigators, in mice treated with the same 5HT5A antagonist (89). Furthermore, 5HT5A has been identified as an inhibitory autoreceptor that regulates the release of serotonin, if only in the absence of concurrent signaling through 5HT1A receptors (90).…”

“…Only 5-HT 5A has only been identified in human cortical layers and cerebellum (Pasqualetti et al, 1998). 5-HT 5A has been shown to couple to Gα i in HEK cells (Hurley et al, 1998), and the selective 5-HT 5A antagonist, SB-6995516, impairs memory (Gonzalez et al, 2013) and reduces acoustic startle (Curtin et al, 2013) in animal models. It has been suggested that the 5-HT 5 receptor may be a therapeutic target in psychiatric disorders (Thomas, 2006), but to date, no selective agonists for this subtype exist to clarify its role.…”

“…Animal studies also have found that a decrease in 5-HT reduced conditioned responses in both short and long-term memory (Gonzalez et al, 2013), while its availability improved the stabilization of emotional memories (Baratta et al, 2016), if preceded by a history of repeated stress exposure (Ohmura et al, 2015). …”
