Rock burst dependency on the type of steel arch support in the Velenje mine

Abstract: The Velenje Colliery is operating in the largest coal deposit in Slovenia and at the same time in one of the thickest known coal seams in the world. The lignite seam is at one point up to 165 m thick. Until now more than 220 million tons of lignite coal were extracted from this seam. The colliery is situated in the so-called Velenje depression, which is a component part of the Southern Karawanke geotectonic unit. Considering the coal mining we can claim that rock bursts are a kind of constant that accompany th… Show more

“…(2) The simplified stress paths in the triaxial test neglected the influence of tectonic stress in the consideration of horizontal stress. However, tectonic stress was mostly included in the in situ stress, as has been extensively indicated in numerous studies [30][31][32]. Furthermore, the stress variations in the rock mass induced by underground coal mining are very complex.…”

“…Peng et al [21] studied the effect of multi-echelon support of deep roadways in a kilometer-deep well based on experiments. By a systematic monitoring and evaluation of the seismic events, Vizintin Goran et al [22] pointed out that rock burst was closely related to the lignite extraction. In addition, the support type was put forward to decrease the deformation.…”

“…Underground wells and ground drilling are usually used in the pre-extraction process, and underground drainage is the main system for realizing actual reservoir conditions [1][2][3][4][5][6]. However, various coal seams in the southwest of China are low-permeability coal seams [7], and methane stored in these seams cannot be effectively extracted, which leads to difficulty in methane extraction during disaster control [8][9][10].…”
