Robustness of Propofol and Sevoflurane on the Perioperative Immune Function of Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy

Abstract: Objective. This study aimed to evaluate the robustness of propofol combined with sevoflurane in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical nephrectomy and its influence on immune function during perioperative period. A total of 140 patients who underwent laparoscopic nephrectomy in the Department of Oncology of our hospital from January 2018 to January 2020 were divided into the control group and the study group by the random number table method, with 70 cases in each group, who were given sevoflurane anesthesia… Show more

“…Propofol and sevoflurane are the most used anesthetics in pediatric surgery (5)(6)(7). Propofol, a short-acting intravenous anesthetic, has the advantages of fast onset, rapid recovery, stability, and prevention of nausea and vomiting, which is widely used for the induction and maintenance of intravenous anaesthesia (6).…”

“…Currently, there are three commonly used methods of general anesthesia for laparoscopic surgery: total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA), simple inhalation anesthesia, and combined intravenous and inhalation anesthesia (CIVIA) ( 10 , 11 ). Among these methods, two general anesthetic drugs, sevoflurane, and propofol, are widely used in clinical practice ( 12 ). Sevoflurane is a new type of halogen inhalation anesthetic that offers advantages such as fast induction, rapid recovery, simple operation, and strong controllability ( 13 ).…”

“…However, some tumor cells have altered surface antigens that allow them to escape the body’s immune surveillance and continue to grow and metastasize [ 13 ]. Both anesthesia and surgical stimulation can cause different degrees of immunosuppression, which further deteriorates the body’s fragile immune function against tumors [ 14 ]. Previous studies have shown that the choice of general anesthesia has a certain impact on the immune function of the body after surgery [ 15 ].…”
