Robust tuning of a generalized predictor-based controller for integrating and unstable systems with long time-delay

Abstract: ElsevierGarcía Gil, PJ.; Albertos Pérez, P. (2013) In this work, a general structure to control long time-delay plants is proposed and an easy methodology to tune the control parameters is outlined. All the sensitivity transfer functions are delay free. The proposed scheme is equivalent to the Smith Predictor but able to cope with any kind of systems, including non-minimum phase, unstable and integrating plants. The controllers are designed based on the delay free model. Contrary to other approaches, other tha… Show more

“…The main controllers, f ( ) K z and ( ) K z , however, were not specifically designed in the references 35,36 , and no performance specifications or stability constraints were studied for engineering applications. To address these issues and obtain improved control performance, analytical designs for these two controllers will be proposed in the following sections.…”

“…[1,2], which may provoke performance deterioration even instability of the control system, in particular for the presence of input delay, or equivalently, delayed output response [3]. Hence, control of industrial systems with time delay, especially for input delay, has attracted considerable attentions in the recent years [4][5][6][7][8][9]. It has been well known that the conventional PID controller could This work is supported in part by the NSF China Grants 61633006 and 61473054, and the National Thousand Talents Program of China.…”
