Robust Nonlinear Controller Design for Damping of Sub-Synchronous Control Interaction in DFIG-Based Wind Farms

Abstract: A robust controller taking advantage of feedback linearization control (FLC) and sliding mode control (SMC) is proposed with an objective of mitigating the sub-synchronous control interaction (SSCI) in series-compensated doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind farms (WFs). FLC method is employed to obtain the reduced-order model of the studied system and, hence, smaller computation burden to controller design. Moreover, unlike linear control methods, FLC enables the controlled system to be independent… Show more

“…Considering the same operating condition, the SMC has an improved performance compared to the FLC. To cope with uncertainties related to both the operating condition and model accuracy, the FLC and SMC are combined in [53,54]. The effectiveness of FLC and SMC in mitigating SSCI has not been reported.…”

“…In addition to that controllers based on the partial feedback linearisation [76], and feedback linearised sliding mode controller [77] are employed to enhance the performance at many operating points of the systems. To overcome the same problem, a controller based on the fractional sliding mode controller is proposed in [78].…”

“…Different methods have been presented for SSR analysis and they are: 1) time-domain simulation [3,4], 2) frequency scanning [1,5], and 3) eigenvalue analysis [6][7][8][9][10]. The latter method is the most important approach where it has been employed in several SSR studies [7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. The procedure of SSR analysis using the eigenvalue method has been presented in [6,[14][15][16][17].…”
