Abstrnct -This paper presents an application of fuzzy logic to control the position of a load coupled to the output shaft of a gearbox The pnmer mover of the gearbox is a dc machine which is supplied by a chopper circuit The elaboration and tuning of the f u u y logic controller (FLC) is based on a sliding mode control ISMC) approach The results are presented in comparative terms among the FLC, SMC and the classical proportional-mtegral-derivative controller (PID) In t h~s application the FLC proved to be better than the PID because the PID IS hghly sensitive to the load changes (torque changes) while the FLC is almost insensitive 0 0.1 0.2 0.3 0.4 0.5 0.6 0.1 0.8 0.9 1.0
