Robotic operations in urgent general surgery: a systematic review

Abstract: Robotically assisted operations are the state of the art in laparoscopic general surgery. They are established predominantly for elective operations. Since laparoscopy is widely used in urgent general surgery, the significance of robotic assistance in urgent operations is of interest. Currently, there are few data on robotic-assisted operations in urgent surgery. The aim of this study was to collect and classify the existing studies. A two-stage, PRISMA-compliant literature search of PubMed and the Cochrane Li… Show more

“…Between 2018 and 2020, they analized all the data linked to the operative and post-operative costs for all emergency general surgery operations both robotic and laparoscopic. Similar to Reinisch [9], they nd an increased hospital cost performing robotic emergency surgery than laparoscopic without any evident bene t for patients' outcome, so they propose to further studies to identify the proper patients' population to receive the most bene t compared to a similar cost than the same laparoscopic procedure.…”

“…Robot-assisted surgery, including approaches to telesurgery, is of particular importance, especially in surgery. The special importance of robotics for patient care has already been described several times and is now an integral part of numerous hospitals [ 22 23 ].…”

“…Moreover, future intraoperative applications of AI might include assistance in timely image analysis for precise tumor resection and intraoperative decision-making. AI-integrated robotic models, akin to the DaVinci system, that directly perform breast surgery or assist surgeons could also be introduced in the future ( 3 , 189 , 190 ). Postoperatively, AI could be applied in patient monitoring and follow-up for early detection of breast surgery complications or breast cancer recurrence.…”
