Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy in Hong Kong: A Review of 235 Cases

Abstract: Our data demonstrate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of RALP in low-to-intermediate volume centers. Our early oncologic outcomes were significantly correlated with pathologic stage and D'Amico risk stratification.

“…Caseloads from the public hospitals in Hong Kong account for the majority of RALP in Hong Kong. In the early development of the RALP programme in Hong Kong, Yip et al (10) reported that 74.9% of patients with RALP had pT2 disease, and 23.4% with pT3 disease. Overall trifecta rate at 12 months was 37.3%.…”

“…14,15 However, there is a paucity of data in terms of RARP long-term oncological outcomes in Asian cohorts. [16][17][18] Regarding the clinical and pathological T-stage, notably, the current study showed that the presence of ≥cT2c and pT3 were associated with lower a incidence of 5-year BCRFS (50.7% and 58.6%, respectively); in addition, ≥cT2c (HR 2.26, 95% CI 1.66-3.07; P < 0.001) and pT3 (HR 1.48, 95% CI 1.04-2.11; P = 0.032) were significant predictors of BCR on multivariate analysis. These results emphasize the prognostic importance and unfavorable consequences in case of proven seminal vesicle and/or extra-capsular extension during staging process.…”

“…8 With regards to the oncologic outcomes after RARP, there are only a few Asian studies, and most have short-term follow-up. Recently, Yip et al 36 reported 235 patients treated with RARP between 2005 and 2009 in Hong Kong, China. However, the mean follow-up period was 24 months and the biochemical outcomes were not analysed in detail.…”
