Robot-assisted laparoscopic antegrade versus open inguinal lymphadenectomy: a retrospective controlled study

Abstract: BackgroundTo investigate the surgical methods and clinical results of robot-assisted laparoscopic antegrade inguinal lymphadenectomy.MethodsA retrospective study was performed on clinical data from 19 patients with penile cancer admitted from March 2013 to October 2017. Among them, nine patients underwent robot-assisted laparoscopic antegrade inguinal lymphadenectomy (robot-assisted group) and 10 patients underwent open inguinal lymphadenectomy (open group). In the robot-assisted group, preoperative preparatio… Show more

“…Wound infection and skin necrosis are rarely encountered in VEIL when compared to open surgery. [ 16 23 28 ] The incidence of lymphocele and lymphedema were similar in both the groups. [ 16 18 23 ] Complications reported with VEIL, were few in number and of less severity requiring conservative management.…”

“…In this study, we compared the clinical outcomes of RAIL and LIL performed via the antegrade approach, and there was no need in this approach to re-position the robotic platform, unlike the retrograde [14-22, 24-25] and lateral approaches [11,12], and pelvic lymphadenectomy could be performed simultaneously using the original trocar position, if necessary [23].…”
