Road Accident Analysis: A Case Study of Federal Route FT024 Yong Peng- Parit Sulong

Abstract: Abstract. Traffic accidents are considered as an unplanned and unfortunate event which is a serious concern to the community as well as the authority. An accident-counter measure can reduce the rate of road accidents by initially identifying critical locations. The total of road accidents along FT 024 between 2009 and 2012 is 907 cases. Road accidents during the same period range between 24 % and 26 % each year. These accidents killed 34 people and injuring another 101 people. This research aims to identify fa… Show more

“…Other major causes included lack of coordination with other nearby projects and miscommunications between the various project participants, congestion and vehicle delays in the working zone, unattended driving behavior, and inadequate capacity traveling work zone [5][6][7][8]. According to police yearly road traffic accident records, there are more than ten different forms of road flaws that have resulted in a road accident [9]. One of the road faults that resulted in an accident is a lack of street lighting, particularly at night.…”

“…But in the design of this type of road, it is important to take into account the characteristics of the infrastructure, as it plays a very important role in road safety, which is directly related to the quality of the road network protection for the benefit of all road users [38]. Since there is a direct relationship between traffic speed [39] and access points [40] and road accident rates [41]. Consequently, from the point of view of the factors, it is important that the governmental entities that manage the road network and urban transportation systems carry out the development of transportation models and traffic forecasting that allow them to analyze the phenomena of lack of traffic flow, particularly in urban centers, historical areas and other noble urban areas.…”

“…This is because, most of the drivers have different perceptions of appropriate operating speed on the roads as suggested in [2]. Other than that, in [3] that studies the accidents behaviour stated that the increase of speed and access point would trigger an increase in the frequency of road accidents. Therefore, the transportation system offers a good speed, and majority of them using it as much as possible, then the best enemy of speed which is congestion will occur.…”
