This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of various postpartum disorders on subsequent reproductive performance in Iraqi cow buffaloes. The data were collected from 172 buffaloes within private dairy buffaloes herd. In this study, the diagnosis and treatment of the affected cases with postpartum disorders (Retained placenta, puerperal metritis, uterine prolapse and vaginal prolapse) contributed in the data collection based on the parity, calving time and reproductive parameters (days to first estrus, open days, service per conception, intervals between estrus and calving interval). Cow buffaloes were divided according to their postpartum disorders into 5 groups: first group (healthy), second group (retained placenta), third group (puerperal metritis), forth group (uterine prolapse) and fifth (vaginal prolapse). The results of this study showed that a total of 74.42% of the cow buffaloes had normal post-partum and open days 121.9 days with resumed ovarian cyclic activity within 77.41 days, increased incidence of G2, G3, G4 and G5 were 9.88, 6.97, 6.97, 5.23 and 3.48%, respectively. Open days were significantly longer in buffaloes in groups 2, 3, 4 and 5 compared to healthy group. In conclusions, early postpartum disorders manifested by increased days to first estrus, calving interval, days open and service per conception were longer than healthy cases in the Iraqi cow-buffaloes.

La retención placentaria (RP) es uno de los trastornos reproductivos más comunes que afecta a las vacas lecheras; sin embargo, los factores de riesgo no están completamente establecidos. El objetivo fue determinar la relación entre diferentes factores de riesgo para PR en el norte de México. Se utilizaron los registros productivos de 2,483 vacas Holstein en Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, México. Las variables se analizaron mediante una prueba X2. Se calcularon las razones de momios (odds ratio; OR) y se realizó un análisis de correlación canónica para determinar la influencia de los factores de riesgo con RP y la influencia de RP sobre los parámetros reproductivos. La incidencia total de RP fue del 10.15%. Los factores de riesgo con mayor OR fueron nacimiento gemelar y nacimiento prematuro, seguidos por mortinatos y distocia. Ninguna temporada de parto incrementó la presencia de PR. La presencia de PR no aumentó la presencia de metritis. El análisis de correlación canónica fue significativo para parto gemelar, mortinatos, nacimiento prematuro y distocia, pero no para la temporada de parto. Existe una correlación significativa de PR con la cantidad de servicios para lograr gestación, el número de lactancias y los días en leche. En conclusión, los factores de riesgo parto gemelar, parto prematuro, mortinatos, distocia y edad de la vaca afectan la incidencia de RP, mientras que la temporada de parto no predispone a la presentación de esta alteración. PR no aumenta la presencia de metritis o la cantidad de servicios, pero reduce los días en leche.

Postpartum uterine infection is extremely important in dairy cattle. It is both common and detrimental to reproductive performance. The present study was conducted to investigate the factors responsible for postpartum uterine infection and its subsequent effect on fertility of crossbred dairy cows in Chatmohar Upazila, Pabna District. A total of 317 cows were selected and registered and then follow up them in postpartum period. Reproductive histories and data of the studied cows were assessed by direct interviewing and from record book of the owners and nearby government veterinary hospital. Totally 33 cows were found uterine infected (10.41%) in postpartum period. The case of pyometra was substantially higher in present study in contrast to others. The incidence of uterine infection puerperal metritis, pyometra and endometritis were 1.89%, 5.99% and 2.52% respectively. Dairy cattle calving season and parity reflected greatly on the incidence of uterine infection. Potentially significant (p<0.05) and higher incidence of uterine infection were associated with poor management system where minimum complications were found with good management practice (3.20%) compared to poor management farms. The dairy cows suffering from endometritis significantly showed prolonged days to first estrus interval, days open and number of services per conception and calving interval values (68.5±0.05 days; 115.4±0.4 days , 4.75±0.50, and 398±6 respectively) than normal healthy cows. Further researches in the near future must be directed for prevention of uterine infection, as most of effective treatments dont prevent the negative impacts of such disease upon dairy, reproduction and culling percentage within dairy herd.International Journal of Natural Sciences (2015), 5(2) 107-111
