Risk Scores Currently Used in German Heart Surgery

Abstract: A quarter of the German heart surgery institutes use one or more RS methods. The most commonly used were the Cleveland Clinic Score and the Euro Score, followed by internally developed RS methods. RS methods were most frequently used for internal quality control. The degree of the severity of disease of the patients who presented for surgery could only be compared between a small number of institutes using the same RS.

“…Postoperativne neletalne komplikacije uključene su u sistem stratifikacije rizika u kardiohirurgiji, ali metod njihovog merenja, kao osnova za objektivno vrednovanje kardiohirurškog rada, nije dovoljno razvijen. Istraživanja kojima je cilj da uspostave sistem predikcije postoperativnih neletalnih komplikacija na osnovu stratifikacije rizika 11,13,[17][18][19] , tek su u začetku.…”

“…Most of them were designed for patients undergoing surgery for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Many RSSs are presently in clinical use for different purposes [3]. For quality management in CABG surgery, widespread use of a single RSS would be desirable, as this is a prerequisite for inter-institutional comparison [3,4].…”

“…Many RSSs are presently in clinical use for different purposes [3]. For quality management in CABG surgery, widespread use of a single RSS would be desirable, as this is a prerequisite for inter-institutional comparison [3,4]. Therefore, we applied four RSSs -the Cleveland Clinic or Higgins Score (CCS/Higgins) [5], the Euro Score (Euro) [6], the French Score (French) [7] and the Parsonnet Score (Parsonnet) [8] ± to patients in our institute who consecutively underwent CABG.…”
