Risk of zoonotic transmission of HEV from rabbits

Abstract: Hepatitis E virus strains from rabbits indicate that these mammals may be a reservoir for HEVs that cause infection in humans. Further issues remain to be clarified, including whether the genotype of rabbit HEV differs from human and swine HEV genotype 3 and whether rabbit HEV can infect human and other animals. HEV was found in farmed rabbits in several geographic areas of China, in USA and more recently in France. The prevalence of antibodies against HEV was 36%, 57% and 55% in rabbits from Virginia (USA), G… Show more

“…The known animal reservoirs of HEV continue to multiply; novel members of the Hepeviridae have been detected in wild and farmed rabbits, wild rats, birds, bats, and trout (13,15,(88)(89)(90)(91)(92)(93)(94)(95)(96)(97)(98)(99)(100)(101)(102)(103)(104)(105)(106). Of these, only rabbit HEV strains have been shown to share a close phylogenetic relationship and possess antigenic similarity to human-and swine-associated HEV strains.…”

“…Charakteryzuje się on dużą zmiennością sekwencji nukleotydowej wśród szczepów HEV (44,52). W przypadku króliczych szczepów wirusa dodatkowo w domenie X obecny jest 93 nt fragment RNA, który najprawdopodobniej bierze udział w replikacji i/lub transkrypcji wirusowego RNA (22,31). ORF2 znajduje się na końcu 3' genomu, pomiędzy 5147 a 7127 nt i koduje białko kapsydu (pORF2) o wielkości 660 aa (22,24,31,52).…”
