Obwohl die karzinogene Wirkung radioaktiver Strahlung weitreichend bekannt ist, herrscht noch immer Uneinigkeit über das strahlungsbedingte Risiko von CT-Untersuchungen. Dabei gibt es inzwischen Studien, die zeigen, dass auch die vergleichsweise geringe Strahlenbelastung, die eine CT-Untersuchung mit sich bringt, das Risiko hämatologischer Krebserkrankungen erhöht, insbesondere bei Kindern.
